About Us

Handmade quality

Lua Limited started back in 2000.  We arrived in Vietnam after a year of adventure travelling mainly throughout SE Asia and were hugely impressed by the beautiful, colourful textiles and silk fabrics we discovered there, as well as the skills of the local artisans producing gorgeous clothing and accessories.  We were inspired to bring a little of this back to the UK by providing beautiful handmade products at an affordable price.

Our aim has been to showcase and continue the traditional textile skills of many villagers in Vietnam, to provide employment for people in rural farming areas and, of course, provide a fulfilling and enjoyable lifestyle for our own family.

UK Design

The majority of our products are designed in the UK and come to life using the talents of local craftspeople in Vietnam.  With the exception of our printed and some of our heavier scarves which are sourced from factories in China, our products are all hand-made in Vietnam.

We produce a wide range of accessories including bags, purses and scarves but we specialise in eyecatching fabric day bags in all manner of textiles; printed cottons and canvas in the Summer and thicker fabrics such as velvet, corduroy, tweeds in the Winter,  as well as small gift items particularly travel - related purses, small cosmetic bags and jewellery rolls/pouches.  We change our collections twice a year to bring you a very different seasonal range of accessories dipping into the latest colour and fabric trends and styles but always focusing on quality and affordability.

We are known for our rich colour palettes and are passionate about using vibrant colour mixes to provide the most up to date and on trend collections.   Hand-drawn designs are matched with fresh new colour combinations each season to create small pices of wearable art!

We are primarily a wholesale company and supply over 500 shops/garden centres and museums around the UK - to see more extensive ranges of our products, please do contact us to find your nearest stockists.

Nature and Wildlife

For the last 12 years we have specialised in, and are well known for, our hand appliqued bags and purses.    Nature and wildlife has always been close to our hearts and hence the majority of our designs feature flora and fauna largely of the UK.

Puffins, Hares, Highland Cows, Hedgehogs, Dragonflies, Bees, Butterflies, Sheep, Oystercatchers are just some of our huge array of appliqued designs!

Since 2018, we have partnered with the amazing charity Rewilding Britain the organisation aiming to allow nature to flourish throughout large swathes of the UK -  enhancing all of our lives with the undoubted benefits that being better connected to the natural world undoubtably brings.  A percentage of profits on key ranges featuring UK wildlife sold through our network of UK stockists and online is donated to Rewilding Britain each season.

Sourcing our Products

We are an independent family-run business and most of our products (bags and purses only) are produced in partnership with local small business in Vietnam.   Our ties with Vietnam have grown stronger over the last 21 years of trading and we visit regularly, sometimes with our children who share our love of travelling and making new friends.  We continue to visit our bag and purse suppliers in Vietnam at least twice a year and:

Since 2009, we have been hugely fortunate to have worked closely with a team of exceptionally skilled artisans in Vietnam specialising in detailed applique and embroidery work.    These skills have been passed down for generations in this tiny corner of Vietnam and are thriving again through the work that we provide.    Our applique lead technician has followed in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents before him and has trained his extended family and many in the local village to produce these highly detailed, beautiful pieces.

Charities we support

We are proud to support the pioneering UK organisation, Rewilding Britain which aims to rewild large swathes of the UK to its natural state, reversing the loss of biodiversity and reconnecting people with nature.  10% of our profits on key ranges each season is donated to Rewilding Britain.  For more information about our support and how you can help, please contact us.

We have also supported a Vietnam based charity, Save Vietnam Wildlife (SVW) an organisation founded to prevent the extinction of critically endangered wildfe from illegal wildlife trading and loss of habitat.   The current situation in Vietnam is declining rapidly. SVW is actively engaged in supporting the confiscation of wildlife from illegal trade, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing animals into suitable and secured habitats that support conservation of wild populations. SVW carries out scientific research to increase the understanding of the requirements for threatened species in the wild and in captivity. They educate and train the public and Vietnamese law enforcement officers to promote positive perceptions and attitudes towards wildlife conservation. Much work is undertaken to continually evolve animal welfare standards and practices for individual animals in the care of the CPCP and promote these ideals to the zoos and rescue centres in Vietnam.

Since 2010, we have given financial support to the work of the Kianh Foundation, a small grass-roots charity based in the UK which addresses the drastic need for improved health and education services for disabled children and adults living in the Quang Nam province of Central Vietnam – an area heavily bombed during the war. Lua sponsored the education and daily care of a boy with Cerebral Palsy who attended the Dien Ban Day Centre for 5 years.  We currently sponsor the needs of a 14 year old boy who has some developmental difficulties having never spoken his whole life before joining the school a few years ago.  When he first joined the programme, he had no confidence and was completely unresponsive. After 6 months on the programme, he began quietly speaking for the first time.  He is a shy, capable and charming boy with great mental arithmetic skills. Just recently, he has won a school prize for his hard work.  As part of his vocational training, he is even running the school coffee shop and mini mart and his confidence is continuing to increase daily.
